FEV supports natural gas engine development across various engines and vehicles as fleet transportation, mining, construction, and power generation continue to stimulate the natural gas infrastructure. The company’s services include compressed natural gas (CNG) testing to address the transition to an energy future involving alternatives such as biofuels, efficient powertrains, and natural gas. Modified to run on CNG, the company's lean burn engine concept features an advanced turbulence-assisted combustion system implemented via modifications to the cylinder head, combustion chamber, pistons, and intake system to create high turbulence through increased intake swirl from the baseline diesel engine. The lean burn combustion process offers improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to conventional CNG technology as a result of dethrottling and the improved combustion efficiency.
