Student Member Benefits

Student Member Dues
  • Annual dues for all student members are now $20 (as of January 28, 2010).
  • Students scheduled to renew in December 2009 through February 2010 have received communications (emails, dues bills) with the $10 dues rate. We will honor that rate for those students. However, they must renew within 90 days of your expiration date to qualify.
  • All student members with an expiration date of March 2010 or later will renew at the $20 rate.
  • SAE membership is valid for twelve months. It expires at the end of the month in which you join, one year later.

Getting Answers About Your Membership
My SAE - Find your member number, learn when your membership expires, renew or upgrade your membership, change your user ID or password, update your personal information (address, phone, email, school/employer, etc.), transfer to professional membership.

MyAccount - Print a receipt for your membership renewal, find the status of an order, your account history & any available credits on your account.

My eLibrary - Find any content you've downloaded from SAE (technical papers and standards coming soon) or search the SAE bookstore.

Details About Momentum: The Magazine For Student Members of SAE International
Description
Written by, for and about students, Momentum includes student-generated articles as well as articles taken from the three SAE technical magazines and news about SAE. Students are actively involved in the development and content selection and will publish six issues a year (Feb, Mar, Apr, Sept, Oct, Nov).

Content will include profiles of students, Collegiate Chapters, and Collegiate Design Series (CDS) teams, guides for undergraduate and graduate schools, career and continuing education tips, information on policies relevant to the industry and student life, company profiles, university programs and industry-partnership research, and more.

Online Access

  • First three issues (Feb, Mar, Apr 2010) will be available to all students
  • Beginning in September 2010, only student members paid at the $20 dues rate will have access

When You Graduate From College - Your Early Career Years
If you are continuing on for an advanced degree, update your educational record and contact information on through My SAE so you will be able to renew your membership as a student.

Once you have completed your education, transfer to professional membership. If you transfer within 12 months of graduation, you qualify for reduced dues for your first four years:

Levels of Professional Membership
Classic The basic membership level, this offers access to news and information at the lowest cost.
Premium Designed for the mainstream member who wants to develop their career, stay current, and make important connections. This level gives a deeper discount on Professional Development courses, meetings, events and publications, and provides access to more technical information than the Classic level.
Elite The most privileged level of membership, this is specifically designed for members who want to attend exclusive events, connect with top executives and managers, receive the most news and technical information, receive the greatest discounts on all SAE publications, Professional Development training, meetings and events and receive VIP treatment.

Grades of Membership
There are four grades of membership in SAE:
Student Full-time college/university students pursuing studies leading to any associate, bachelor, masters, or doctoral degree.
Associate Anyone whose affiliation supports the objectives of SAE but does not meet the requirements for Member grade.
Member Established engineers, scientists, and other professionals who have a qualified college or university degree in engineering. Individuals with a Member grade are entitled to vote on matters submitted to a vote of the membership.
Fellow The most prestigious grade established to recognize individuals for extraordinary leadership, creativity, and accomplishments in science, engineering, and technology covered by SAE. You must be nominated by other SAE members to be considered for this grade.

How Levels Relate to Grades of Membership
Grade: You are assigned a grade of membership based on your educational background, experience and level of engineering involvement. You may select any level of membership, regardless of your grade.

Level: You can choose any level of membership depending on the amount of benefits you desire, regardless of your grade.
