The Baja SAE® competition consists of three regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and sometimes even water.

Baja SAE is part of SAE International’s Collegiate Design Series ™. Other competitions in the series include Aero Design®, Clean Snowmobile Challenge™, Formula SAE® and Supermileage®.

SAE International’s Collegiate Design Series™ and A World In Motion® curriculum won the National Science Foundation’s prestigious 2008 Public Service Award.

SAE International is a global association of more than 121,000 engineers and related technical experts in the automotive, aerospace and commercial-vehicle industries. SAE International's core competencies are life-long learning and standards development. SAE International's charitable arm is the SAE Foundation, which supports many programs, including A World In Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series.
