Nissan Engineering Director Receives SAE Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 22, 2009 - Masao Fukushima, an Engineering Director at Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. in Atsugi, Japan, has been selected to receive SAE International's Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award. He was presented the award at the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit.

This award, established in 1996, distinguishes an individual or team whose outstanding technical accomplishment has significantly advanced state-of-the-art intelligent transportation systems. The award is funded through the SAE Foundation.

As Engineering Director in Nissan’s Intelligent Transportation (IT) & Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineering Department, Fukushima is responsible for the entire technological management of autonomous ITS advanced driver assistance systems and cooperative safety support systems such as vehicle-to-vehicle communication and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. He is also the Project Leader of SKY (Start ITS from Kanagawa, Yokohama). He also has experience working in chassis system design and experiment, noise and vibration design and experiment, and vehicle planning.

Fukushima earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
