Environmental Systems Conference Administration Transitions from SAE International to AIAA

WARRENDALE, Pa., July 13, 2009 -

Administration of the International Conference on Environmental Systems (ICES) is transitioning from SAE International to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) beginning with the 2010 event.

The transition will be announced at the 2009 event, which is set for July 12-16 at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah, Ga.

The event is organized by the ICES Steering Committee.  SAE International and AIAA, a co-sponsor of the conference since its inception, will work closely together to ensure a seamless transition for the 2010 event committee, organizers and attendees.

“ICES has benefitted greatly under SAE International’s administration, and this year’s event is no exception,” David Mazyck, 2009 ICES Chair, said.  “I am confident that SAE International and AIAA will effectively carry out this transition for a successful event in 2010.”

“We are pleased the AIAA has been selected for the future operation of ICES by SAE International and the ICES Steering Committee,” David Thompson, AIAA President, said.  “As our profession continues to evolve its understanding of operating aerospace systems in extreme environmental conditions, AIAA looks forward to working with the ICES Steering Committee to ensure that ICES remains the premier forum for sharing that research, for furthering our understanding of those harsh conditions, and for helping to answer the question: ‘How can humanity adapt to them?’”

ICES is a technical program that addresses environmental systems in space and other extreme environments.  This year’s event will feature 76 technical sessions, 243 technical papers and presentations from General Eugene Tattini and former NASA astronaut Carl Walz.  The 2009 conference chair is David Mazyck of the University of Florida.

SAE International is a global association of more than 121,000 engineers and related technical experts in the automotive, aerospace and commercial-vehicle industries. SAE International's core competencies are life-long learning and standards development. SAE International's charitable arm is the SAE Foundation, which supports many programs, including A World In Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series.

AIAA is the world’s largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. With 37,000 individual members worldwide, and 90 corporate members, AIAA brings together industry, academia and government to advance engineering and science in aviation, space and defense.
