SAE Announces Venue Change for Powertrain Conference

Warrendale, PA,, June 18, 2003 - SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) announced today that it has changed the city and venue for one of its upcoming meetings.

The Powertrain & Fluid Systems Conference & Exhibition, slated for October 27-30, 2003, will move from Toronto, Canada, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in response to ongoing member and participant concern with SARS. The meeting will be held at the Westin Conference Center Hotel, located in downtown Pittsburgh, over the same dates.

Richard Perrier, the event's General Chair, supports the venue change. "The decision to move the meeting comes after careful consideration by the event's planning committee and the SAE Fuels & Lubricants Activity Committee," noted Perrier. "I am confident that SAE will soon be back to host an event in the wonderful city of Toronto once the anxiety surrounding the outbreak of disease has been relieved."

Ray Morris, SAE Executive Vice President, echoed Perrier's comments. "The move is in the interest of protecting our attendees and providing an environment that is conducive to learning," said Morris. "We have to make decisions based on the best available data, and we have to make them early on so that we can communicate with potential attendees before their trips are planned."

Morris noted that the Powertrain & Fluid Systems Conference & Exhibition will return to Toronto at a future date, possibly as early as 2005.
