WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 31, 2009 - Continuing to expand its overall portfolio of programs, products and services in the area of mobility electronics, SAE International has purchased all rights to the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association Conference (Convergence) from the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association (CTEA). SAE International has been involved with Convergence since its beginning and has fully administered the event since 2006.

“The increasing importance of electronics to mobility engineering can’t be underestimated. SAE International recognizes this and is taking an aggressive role to expand and upgrade its programs, products and services in this area,” James E. Smith, PhD, 2009 President, SAE International, said. “The acquisition of Convergence is a perfect step toward that ongoing goal.”

Convergence serves the automotive and transportation electronics community by delivering relevant technology solutions. The event serves as a catalyst for the fusion of electronics into the automotive industry by delivering:

·         High-level, management keynote addresses and panel discussions from leading executives, engineers and technology experts from around the globe

·         Informative technical sessions

·         Dynamic networking events that encourage open discussion and information sharing

Convergence 2010 will be held Oct. 18-20, 2010 at Cobo Center in Detroit. Host companies for the event are Ford Motor Company and Microsoft Corporation, and the theme is “Partnerships for Driving Smart Mobility.”

“We are pleased with the partnership that we have enjoyed with CTEA over the years. The collaboration has produced a leading electronics event that is a standard of excellence in the automotive industry,” David L. Schutt, PhD, Chief Executive Officer, SAE International, said. “We look forward to leveraging the full complement of SAE’s programs, products and services to make Convergence even more valuable to mobility engineers.”

Proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Convergence Education Foundation, supporting its mission of positively influencing youth toward engineering, science and mathematics careers.

“We are pleased to have worked with SAE International over the years. Through this agreement, CTEA can make a major contribution to the Convergence Education Foundation, helping better position it to fulfill its mission of igniting the creative potential of students toward engineering, science and mathematics,” Cary Wilson, Chairman, Convergence Transportation Electronics Association, said.
