Renowned race car driver will speak at luncheon for SAE's 17th Annual Brake Colloquium

Warrendale, PA,, July 20, 1999 - A racing driver, engineer, and team manager who has worked with some of auto racing history's legends such as Mario Andretti, Price Cobb, A. J. Foyt, Dan Gurney, Sam Posey, Carroll Shelby and Bobby Rahal will speak at the 17th Annual Brake Colloquium and Engineering Display, October 10-13, 1999 at the Fountainebleau Hilton, Miami Beach, Florida.

Carroll Smith, known to the racing world as the "Race Engineering Guru," will address an audience of several hundred brake engineering enthusiasts at the Brake Colloquium Luncheon on Tuesday, October 12. Over 700 design engineers, engineering management, and corporate officials will be on hand for the three-day conference.

Smith has been racing as a driver, an engineer, and a team manager since 1955. His cars have won races and championships in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Mexico with experience in everything from LeMans to SCCA Regionals including the World's Manufacturer's Championship, the Tasman Championship, the Australian Touring Cat Championship, the Mexican Formula Two Championship, and most of the Off-Road Championships.

Carroll has also authored several books, published by SAE that are considered the bibles of the racing industry. His "To Win" series covers four decades of racing history.

Carroll has a comprehensive background in and working knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and racing vehicle design and construction. He is familiar with the attitudes, viewpoints, needs and demands of drivers, sponsors, owners, engineers, mechanics and sanctioning bodies and has worked to build morale, instill pride and responsibility, and help to shape diverse groups of varying abilities as effective teams.
