Foroudastan Earns SAE International Excellence in Engineering Education Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 10, 2010 - Dr. Saeed Foroudastan, Associate Dean for the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), was honored with the SAE International Excellence in Engineering Award during the SAE 2010 World Congress, held this past April in Detroit.

The SAE International Excellence in Engineering Award recognizes outstanding contributions made by an individual toward activities related to the SAE Education Board. The award is given for any of the following types of service: promotion of SAE student activities at the international or local levels, contributions that advance engineering education, contributions in support of the SAE Collegiate Design competitions, and promotion of educational related activities at any level.

Dr. Foroudastan has six years of industrial experience as a senior engineer and 16 years of academic experience as a professor, associate professor and assistant professor. Dr. Foroudastan’s academic experience includes teaching at Tennessee Technological University and Middle Tennessee State University in the areas of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Technology. He has actively advised undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Foroudastan has also served as faculty advisor for SAE International, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Experimental Vehicles Program.   

In addition to his teach experience, Dr. Foroudastan also has performed extensive research and published numerous technical papers. He has achieved U.S. and European patents and secured more than $1,000,000 in both internal and external grants and research funding. He is the faculty advisor, coordinator and primary fundraiser for SAE International teams entering national project competitions such as the Formula SAE Collegiate Competition, and the Baja SAE Race.    

Dr. Foroudastan received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Civil Engineering, and a PhD in mechanical engineering from Tennessee Technological University.
