Tze Chi Jao Named Winner of SAE International’s Forest R. McFarland Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 11, 2010 - Tze Chi Jao, a former research and development fellow with the Afton Chemical Corporation, has been named a winner of the SAE International 2010 Forest R. McFarland Award.

The McFarland award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to the SAE Engineering Meetings Board and the development and dissemination of information through technical meetings, conferences, and professional development programs, or for contributions in facilitating or enhancing the interchange of technical information.

Jao retired from Afton Chemical in January after 28 years of working in the petroleum additive industry. He continues to work for Afton as a consultant.

Jao earned the McFarland Award for his consistent service to the SAE's technical program through his actions as a technical session chairperson and as the Chairperson of the Lubricants and Powertrain System Committee. He also leads efforts to launch new SAE technical sessions in emerging fields of R&D.

He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry at the National Chung-Hsing University in Taiwan in 1963 and doctorate degree in physical chemistry at the University of Florida.

Established in 1979, the award honors the late Forest R. McFarland, who was an outstanding session organizer, a chairman of the Passenger Car Activity Committee and a member of the Engineering Meetings Board. Funding for this award is through a bequest by McFarland to SAE and consists of a framed certificate presented at the SAE World Congress.
