Dr. Daniel E. Fisher to Receive 2004 Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award
Warrendale, PA, Feb. 10, 2004 - Dr. Daniel E. Fisher of Oklahoma State University has been selected to receive the 2004 Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. Fisher, along with eight other recipients, will be presented with the award on March 9, 2004 during the Honors Convocation at the SAE 2004 World Congress in Detroit, Michigan.
This award annually recognizes outstanding engineering educators, offering them an opportunity to become acquainted with the professional activities of the automotive and aerospace industries. The program accomplishes this by underwriting the costs of bringing award recipients to the SAE World Congress & Exposition in Detroit, Michigan, or an aerospace industry meeting. Established in 1965, this award is funded through a generous contribution by the late Ralph R. Teetor, 1936 SAE President, who believed that engineering educators are the most effective link between engineering students and their future careers.
Fisher is an assistant professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Oklahoma State University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in thermal systems design. In addition, he has mentored eight senior capstone design teams, six related to thermal systems research and two related to the development of a car for the Formula SAE student design competition. He serves as the faculty advisor to the Formula SAE Racing Team as well as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) student branch.
Fisher's research interests are in the areas of energy conversion and design of thermal systems. In recent years, he has focused on the development of energy and thermal load calculation procedures for air-conditioning systems. He has developed algorithms and models that have a number of industrial applications including automotive air-conditioning system design and simulation. He recently won an R&D 100 Award, along with collaborators from the University of Illinois, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and four other research groups, for development of the EnergyPlus building energy simulation program.
Dr. Fisher is a member of SAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the International Building Performance Simulation (IBPSA). He earned his bachelor's degree, master's degree, and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. He also holds a bachelor's degree in international business from Carthage College.
