GMs Opel/Vauxhall CEO Karl Stracke to Announce Collegiate Engineering Competition during Opening Ceremony of SAE International World Congress

What: Karl Stracke, Chief Executive Officer, Opel/Vauxhalland General Chair, SAE 2011 World Congress, to announce the first phase of a unique engineering competition which provides college students the opportunity to design and build vehicles using advanced propulsion technologies that reduce the environmental impact of vehicles without compromising performance, safety and consumer acceptability.
The competition is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and General Motors and builds upon a successful 23-year history for DOE Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions that exemplifies the power of public/private partnerships in providing invaluable experience and training to promising, young minds entering the North American job market.

The SAE 2011 World Congress will be held April 12-14 in Detroit. The theme of the SAE 2011 World Congress is “Charging Forward Together.” The theme elicits not only enthusiasm, but a willingness as a community to expand the industry's knowledge as a team. “Charging Forward Together” highlights the importance of continuing the evolution of automotive propulsion technology and energy efficiency— as well as representing the continued recovery and progress in our industry.
