Media Alert - SAE International Supermileage Competition Slated for June 9-10
WARRENDALE, Pa., June 1, 2011 -
What: Supermileage® – Hosted by Eaton Corporation since its inception nearly 30 years ago as a way to generate public awareness in the area of fuel economy, the Supermileage® competition offers a simple yet challenging goal: to build a one-person, fuel-efficient vehicle based around a small, four-cycle engine. (Engines are donated by Briggs & Stratton). In this event, competitors don’t race against the clock or to a checkered flag; rather, the highest miles per gallon over the 9.6 mile course wins the event.
When: June 9-10
Where: Eaton Corporation Proving Grounds, 19218 B Drive South, Marshall, Mich.
More than 30 collegiate teams are entered in this year’s competition. Defending champion for the competition is Universite’ Laval, Quebec, Canada, with a fuel economy of 2,340 mpg and a total score of 2,620.
