Walter W. Olson Earns SAE International Leadership Citation
WARRENDALE, Pa., June 13, 2011 - Walter W. Olson, a professor at the University of Toledo, was presented with the SAE International Leadership Citation during the SAE 2011 World Congress.
This citation, established in 1988, was created to recognize an individual internationally well known for continuous professional involvement and participation in SAE International’s meetings, conferences, congresses and/or unique assistance and support in helping SAE International achieve its goals and objectives.
In addition to being a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Olson is also a Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Toledo. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA) with dual degrees in Basic and Applied Sciences. He received his Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
While in the U.S. Army, he held various management positions related to engineering and manufacturing and also served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at USMA. His research interests include vehicle dynamics, manufacturing processes and sustainable development, with his current research focusing on developing hybrid hydraulic vehicles for commercial use. He has authored more than eighty publications and is the Past Chair of the SAE Engineering Meetings and of the Toledo Section of SAE International. He has also been Chair of the SAE Sustainable Development Program Committee.
