John Brennan Honored with SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award
WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 12, 2011 - John Brennan, retired founder of J&J Tooling Services, was honored with the SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award during the 2011 SAE International AeroTech Congress and Exhibition.
The award recognizes unusual achievements of an individual who, through dedicated service, tireless efforts, high ideals, and vision, contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the dedicated discipline of automated fastening machines and their applications. Established in 1983, the award is administered by the Aerospace Automated Fastening Committee.
John Brennan, together with his wife Joy, founded J&J Tooling Services (Bury) Ltd. in 1972, following 12 years in the marketing of metal cutting tools. He was Chief Executive not only for the “Services” company but also for J&J Tooling (Engineering) Ltd which was founded in 1981. From the beginning his interest was in the manufacture and supply of specialized tooling for the engineering industry with a strong emphasis on Aerospace assembly tooling and related equipment.
Brennan was responsible for overseeing the supply and installation of a number of Automatic Drill Riveting Machines, Robotic End Effectors and the introduction of Low Voltage Electromagnetic Riveting, Automated Split Sleeve Cold Working and Advanced Portable Drilling Units into the UK. During his time at the helm of J&J, he introduced automation that has gone on to produce many hundreds of airframe assemblies.
