Robert N. Burns Receives 2003 Thomas H. Speller Award
Warrendale, PA, July 24, 2003 - Robert "Bob" Burns, a principal executive in the automatic fastening industry, has been selected to receive the 2003 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Thomas H. Speller Award. He will be presented the award on Wednesday, September 10 during the 2003 Aerospace Conference and Exhibition (ACE) at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal.
This award, established in 1990, recognizes an individual who has contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the discipline of automatic fastening machines and their applications. The award is administered annually by the Aerospace Automated Fastening Conference and Exhibition (Aerofast).
Burns has committed 25 years of service to the advancement of the automatic fastening industry. After successfully establishing Aerospace Precision Systems, Inc. as a supplier of new and rebuilt automatic riveters, fastener feed systems, tooling, and service, Burns was appointed to Vice President of Operations for their APS Automation Division until leaving to work as an independent consultant in 2002. Burns has also been an invaluable resource to the Aerospace Automated Fastening Committee. Throughout his dedicated 20-year membership, Burns has taken on active leadership roles on the Executive Committee as the Administrative Vice Chair and has been instrumental in chairing and organizing the Aerofast event each year.
Burns and his staff at Aerospace Precision have been at the forefront of Aerofast's primary mission to disseminate information about automatic fastening and have played an imperative role in the development of this important sector of aerospace technology.
