William E. Klenk to Receive the 2004 SAE Sid Olsen Engineering Manager Award
Warrendale, PA, Oct. 4, 2004 - William E. Klenk, Director, Off-Highway Transmissions and Hybrid Electric Drive Operations at Allison Transmission, has been selected to receive the 2004 SAE Sid Olsen Engineering Manager Award. The award will be presented during the banquet at the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in metro Chicago, Illinois.
This award recognizes an outstanding engineering manager in the off-highway industry. Established in 1995, it honors Sid A. Olsen's contributions to the off-highway industry and the outstanding engineering management values he personified. Olsen, an SAE Fellow, was manager of engine engineering at the John Deere Product Engineering Center. He was a charismatic leader who was successful in attracting top engineering talent and mentoring them. His protégés have been very successful throughout the off-highway industry.
Klenk began his career with Allison Transmission in 1970. He began as a systems analyst in commercial data processing, but advanced quickly. In his 34-year career, he has held the titles of General Supervisor of Systems and Procedures, Manager of Materials and Production Control, Director of Materials and Production Control, Director or Defense Programs, Director of North American Sales, and, currently, Director, Off-Highway Transmissions and Hybrid Electric Drive. He is known to his colleagues as an avid listener to the voice of the customer, and has been instrumental in planning, developing, gaining management approval, and implementing programs that enhance durability and/or improve performance of Allison Off-Highway transmissions. He is also recognized as a mentor, whom individuals seek out for advice and counsel.
Klenk holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management (honors) from Purdue University.
