Dr. Robert Wagner Honored with the SAE International Leadership Citation

WARRENDALE, Pa., March 13, 2014 - Dr. Robert Wagner, Director of the Fuels Engines and Emissions Research Center and Distinguished R&D Staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will be honored with the International Leadership Citation during the SAE 2014 World Congress.  Dr. Wagner will receive the award during the Awards and Recognitions Ceremony, Tuesday, April 8 at 5 p.m. in Cobo Center.

This citation, established in 1988, was created to provide public recognition to an individual well known internationally for continuous professional involvement and participation in SAE's meetings, conferences, congresses and/or unique assistance and support in helping SAE achieve its goals and objectives, either in the broadest sense or related to one specific conference abroad.

Dr. Wagner has been principal investigator on many research activities spanning low temperature combustion, unstable combustion fundamentals, thermodynamics, renewable fuels, and emissions characterization.  His current responsibilities include the coordination and development of strategic internal and external collaborations to better support the mission of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Vehicle Technologies Office.  This includes the integration of ORNL expertise in high performance computing, neutron sciences, and material sciences to further the development of advanced transportation technologies.

Dr. Wagner is a Fellow of SAE International; past recipient of the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award; past Chairman of the SAE Combustion & Fuels Committee; an organizer of multiple international SAE symposiums; and a member of the Executive Committee of the SAE Powertrain, Fuels, and Lubricants activity. He also is a member of the Advisory Board for the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center on Clean Vehicles and an incoming member of the Executive Committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Division of Internal Combustion Engines.  Dr. Wagner is an Associate Editor of the SAE International Journal of Engines and on the editorial board of the International Journal of Engine Research. He has authored more than 100 technical publications, a book chapter, and two patents. He also is a frequent invited speaker on the topics of high efficiency combustion, engine instabilities, adaptive controls, and the long-term outlook of high efficiency transportation technologies.
