Dr. Lyle M. Pickett to Receive 2003 SAE Russell S. Springer Award

Warrendale, PA ,, Jan. 14, 2005 - Dr. Lyle M. PickettDr. Lyle M. Pickett of Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California has been selected to receive the Society Automotive Engineers (SAE) Russell S. Springer Award. Presentation of the award will take place on April 12, 2005 during the Honors Convocation at the annual SAE World Congress in Detroit, Michigan.

This award is given to recognize original and outstanding technical papers which are distinct contributions to the literature of the professions of mobility engineering, and for the encouragement of the younger members. The award is made annually by the SAE to a young eligible SAE member whose paper, presented at an SAE sponsored technical conference, is published in SAE Literature in the year for which the award is made. Pickett was selected to receive the award for his technical paper entitled, "Fuel Effects on Soot Processes of Fuel Jets at DI Diesel Conditions"(2003-01-3080).

Pickett is currently a member of the Engine Combustion Department at the Combustion Research Facility at Sandia National Laboratories where he participates in research on diesel and low temperature combustion methods for clean and fuel-efficient engines. He has been involved in various combustion research topics including: NOx reduction by reburning in coal-fired burners, mixing and combustion effects in a two-stream mixing layer, and diesel engine combustion research.

Pickett is a member of SAE. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000. Both his master's and bachelor's degrees are in mechanical engineering from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
