Masayuki Adachi Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 22, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Dr. Masayuki Adachi was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Adachi was one of 22 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

Adachi is the senior corporate officer and general manager of the Research & Development Division of HORIBA, Ltd., Japan. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing research and development for the analytical instrumentation of automotive test systems, process and environmental analytical systems, medical systems, semiconductor process equipment and scientific analytical instruments.

Since Adachi joined HORIBA in 1985, he has developed technologies for automotive emission measurement, including establishing practical applications for analytical technologies for exhaust emission measurement, like the FourierTransform infrared spectrometer, mass spectroscopy and flow rate measurement methods. He also developed the infrared extinction /scattering technique, which measures fuel vapor distribution inside the spray by utilizing the infrared absorption spectroscopy to characterize steadystate and transient fuel spray structure.

Adachi is member of the Pacific Rim Consortium of Energy, Combustion and Environment, Advanced Power and Energy Program at the University of California-Irvine, Analytical Life Science Systems Association (U.S.A.), Japanese Society of Automotive Engineers, and the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International recognizing outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual resulting in advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
