Joseph Palazzolo Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 22, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Joseph Palazzolo was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Palazzolo was one of 22 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

Palazzolo is chief engineer of eDrive Systems at GKN Driveline where he manages the mechanical design and development of new automotive gearboxes, torque transfer devices, concepts, and integration into production applications. His professional background spans the majority of vehicle powertrain systems including overall chassis design and validation, all-wheel systems design and development, power transfer unit and transfer case design, and torque management device development at Carron and Company, Visteon Corporation, Warn Industries, Magna Powertrain, and Ford Motor Company.

Palazzolo specializes in competitive, high-performance drivetrain systems. He has designed, built, campaigned and supported various racecars and teams for both professional and amateur racing organizations. The award-winning author of High-Performance Differentials, Axles & Drivelines and How to Rebuild the Ford 8.8 and 9 inch Axles, he recently finalized three chapters for Automotive Engineering Encyclopedia, and holds numerous patents for work in advancing mobility systems.

Palazzolo received SAE’s Forest R. McFarland Award for distinction in professional development and education in 2007 and is an SAE Master Instructor. He is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified master technician and certified undercar specialist. He is the former chair of the SAE All-Wheel Drive Standards Committee.

He received his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Cleveland State University and a master’s of automotive engineering from Lawrence Technological University.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
