Eiji Tomita Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 22, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Dr. Eiji Tomita was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Tomita was one of 22 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

 

Tomita is a professor at Okayama University’s Department of Advanced Mechanics, Division of Industrial Innovation Sciences, Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology. He spent 31 years in research and development before moving into academia. He started his career with Mitsubishi Motors in 1981, moved to Okayama University 1982, and was appointed full professor in 1998.

Tomita’s research in combustion and its diagnostics resulted in 195 papers including 68 journal papers, 37 SAE papers, 17 patents and six best paper awards. He is the recipient of the SAE Harry LeVan Horning Memorial Award (2004) and is also a fellow of the Institute of Physics, Society of Automotive Engineering of Japan (JSAE) and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineering (JSME). He earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering from Kyoto University in Japan.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
