Hongming Xu Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 22, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Dr. Hongming Xu was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Xu was one of 22 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

 

Xu joined the University of Birmingham in 2005 as a professor of Energy and Automotive Engineering and head of the Vehicle and Engine Technology Research Centre in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. Prior to that, he worked at the Jaguar Cars Ford Premier Automotive Group, where he was a project engineer, team leader and technical specialist. He was a principal investigator of a number of major industry and UK/EU government projects and has more than 200 journal and conference publications in engine research involving experimental and modeling studies.

Additionally, Xu has been an alternate member of the IEA Combustion Agreement Executive Committee and served on the editorial board of several international journals. He was also elected a Birmingham Hero at the University of Birmingham in 2010 for his contribution to research in future engines and fuels. He obtained his Ph.D. from Imperial College London in 1995 where he worked as post-doctoral research associate and senior research associate.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
