Xiaobo Yang Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 22, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Dr. Xiaobo Yang was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Yang was one of 22 Fellow inductees were recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

 

The senior chief principal engineer at Advanced Products Engineering Department at the Oshkosh Corporation, Yang spent 20 years in research, development and teaching in the automotive industry and at universities, focusing on vehicle dynamics, chassis system development, suspension system analysis and durability road loads simulation. His research led to 10 efficient engineering toolboxes and processes considered as company trade secrets, 100 internal technical reports and 40 technical papers.

He has initialized and served as co-organizer for the SAE 2005 World Congress Program: Loads Simulation and Analysis in Automotive Engineering.  The program has contributed more than 40 annual papers to World Congresses. He was chair for the SAE Tire Tests for Road-Load Tire Model Parameters Task Force, which led to the development of the SAE Standard J2812. He is currently serving as the chair of SAE Material Modeling and Testing Committee. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of Associated Editors of SAE International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing, and International Journal of Vehicle Performance, and guest editor for the International Journal of Vehicle Design. Yang received SAE’s Lloyd L. Withrow Distinguished Speaker Award and Forest R. McFarland Award.

Yang has a bachelor’s degree from Xihua University, a master’s degree from Jilin University, and a doctorate from Concordia University-Canada, all in automotive/mechanical engineering.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
