WARRENDALE, Pa., April 24, 2014 -

SAE International announced that Dr. Monika Ivantysynova was elected as a 2013-2014 SAE Fellow. Ivantysynova was one of 22 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2014 SAE World Congress, April 8-10 in Detroit, Michigan.

A professor of fluid power systems at Purdue University, Ivantysynova is the founder of the Maha Fluid Power Research Center, where she has served as a director since 2004. She is a member of the executive committee, thrust leader and test bed leader of the NSF funded Engineering Research Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power.

She began research in the field of advanced actuation systems at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg. She has served as professor for hydraulic systems and control at the University of Duisburg, Germany, and professor for nechatronic systems at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany.

Her research continues to focus on innovative energy saving hydraulic drive and actuation systems, including computational methods for the design and optimization of high efficient pumps and motors. She has 15 patents and several patent applications, a book on hydrostatic pumps and motors, and more than 200 journal publications and conference papers. She also is editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Fluid Power.

Ivantysynova was the 2009 recipient of the Joseph Bramah Medal for her commitment to international fluid power research and education by the United Kingdom’s Institution of Mechanical Engineers. She holds a master’s and doctorate from the Slovak Technical University of Bratislava and an honorary doctorate from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
