Senior Research Engineering at Caterpillar Inc. Wins SAE/AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 10, 2014 -

Chad P. Koci, Senior Research Engineer at Caterpillar Inc., is the winner of the SAE International/AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award.

Koci received the award at the SAE 2014 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress, which was held in Rosemont, Ill.

The award recognizes an outstanding young engineer in the off-highway or powerplant industry. Established in 1996, the award was proposed by senior engineering executives and is administered under the auspices of the SAE Engineering Meetings Board in cooperation with AEM.

In his position with Caterpillar, Koci focuses on diesel engine combustion physics in both experimental and modeling themes. Prior to joining Caterpillar, he worked at Southwest Research Institute as a Research Engineer, focused on diesel combustion and engine controls. 


Koci holds a BSME and MSME from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with graduate work focusing on Low-Temperature Diesel Combustion. Prior publications include five SAE International technical papers on Diesel LTC(2), Air-Assisted Diesel Sprays, 6-stroke Diesel Combustion, Diesel Orifice/Spray Characterization, and an upcoming paper at CMT’s THIESEL focuses on Diesel Jet-to-Jet Spacing Influence on Combustion. He is an active member of SAE International, participating in annual technical paper reviews, award panels, and supporting conference organization efforts.
