New SAE International Presentation Explores Radar Systems in Autonomous Vehicles
WARRENDALE, Pa., March 1, 2016 - SAE International offers a new webinar presentation that describes the use of advanced engineering simulation in assessing the performance of an automotive radar in autonomous vehicle systems.
Sponsored by ANSYS, “Autonomous Vehicle Radar: Improving Radar Performance with Simulation” will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 10 a.m. U.S. EST.
Automotive radars must operate in complex and dynamic environments where interactions with the vehicle and its surroundings can have a significant impact on the performance of the radar system. In particular, material properties of the vehicle fascia and the radar’s location behind the fascia can impact its performance and must be accounted for by radar designers and system integrators.
Additionally, they also need to understand the radar’s performance under varying traffic and weather conditions. Further, as automotive radar systems mature, it is important to understand complex scattering mechanisms in different environments and for different objects encountered on the road.
This 60-minute presentation describes the use of advanced engineering simulation in assessing the performance of an automotive radar behind various fascia designs. Finite element electromagnetic simulation is used to compute fields over a Huygens surface that encloses an automotive radar. These fields are then used as the antenna source in a shooting and bouncing ray simulation that assesses the impact of the car fascia on the radar’s performance.
Attendees will be invited to ask questions during the webinar’s Q&A segment.
Speakers for the webinar will be:
- Dr. Sandeep Sovani, Director, Global Automotive Industry, ANSYS
- Dr. Matthew Commens, Lead Product Manager, ANSYS
- Shawn Carpenter, Senior Product Specialist, ANSYS
