Dr. Anindya Deb of Indian Institute of Science Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 26, 2016 - SAE International announces that Dr. Anindya Deb was elected as a 2015-2016 SAE Fellow. Dr. Deb was one of 18 SAE Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2016 SAE World Congress, April 12-14 in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Deb is recognized for his outstanding contributions to nonlinear computational techniques for engineering design, lightweight materials and structures, and impact testing. Advanced CAE approaches he developed are being followed in vehicle safety design and weight optimization in industry. His patented vehicle safety countermeasures and extensive publications enhanced knowledge and occupant protection towards improved automotive safety.

Dr. Deb is currently a Professor and former Chairman of the department (09’-14’), at the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Jadavpur University – Calcutta, India, his master’s from the Memorial University of Newfoundland – St. John’s, Canada, and his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Prior to his current position at the Indian Institute of Science, Dr. Deb’s work included: Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, Structural Dynamics Research Corporation in Milford, Ohio, Caddtech Productivity in Liverpool, New York, and Tata Motors in Jamshedpur, India. 

Dr. Deb has been a Principal Investigator for a number of government and industry funded projects and has attained 6 patents some of which were implemented in the first Ford sedan, namely the Lincoln LS, designed for compliance to upper interior head impact safety regulation. He is currently an expert advisor for the National Mission for Electric Mobility, India., and is a Fellow of the prestigious Indian National Academy of Engineering.

He is the author of more than 150 technical publications a number of which are in the specialized areas of impact engineering and vehicle safety design, multi-disciplinary design optimization, lightweight materials for vehicles, and design of biomedical implants.He is a reviewer for a number of international journals and is also on the editorial board for several of those journals including SAE’s International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
