U.S. Army Senior Technical Specialist Dr. David A. Lamb Named SAE International Fellow

WARRENDALE, Pa., May 26, 2016 - SAE International announced that Dr. David A. Lamb was elected as a 2015-2016 SAE Fellow. Lamb was one of 18 Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2016 SAE World Congress, April 12-14 in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Lamb was recognized as an SAE Fellow because he is an accomplished public speaker, and regularly communicates both inside and outside TARDEC regarding the role of Modeling and Simulation on ground vehicle design. He is a strong advocate for advancing design by using optimization methods and other mathematics, and is often invited to give talks at various venues, conferences and academic departments on the subject. He plays an essential role in marketing the M&S capabilities at TARDEC, both internally, and to external partners.

Dr. Lamb serves as the Senior Technical Expert for the U.S. Army, specializing in military ground vehicle modeling and simulation.  He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from George Mason University in 1985, and later earned a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992, with a major in mathematics and a minor in computer sciences. He has worked for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center (TARDEC) since 1994.

Dr. Lamb remains active with SAE International as a speaker for student sections at both Clemson University and the University of Louisville, but most notably through his committee involvement. He is currently the co-president of the SAE Great Lakes Section as well as the chairman of both SIAM and the Ground Vehicle Reliability committee.

SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
