Dr. Ahmed A. Shabana of the University of Illinois at Chicago Named an SAE International Fellow
WARRENDALE, Pa., May 26, 2016 - SAE International announces that Dr. Ahmed A. Shabana was elected as a 2015-2016 SAE Fellow. Dr. Shabana was one of 18 SAE Fellow inductees recognized during ceremonies at the 2016 SAE World Congress, April 12-14 in Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Shabana is recognized for his outstanding contributions to computational mechanics, multibody system dynamics, and vibration theory. He is recognized internationally as one of the leaders in vehicle dynamics research. He currently works at the University of Illinois at Chicago in several different roles including a University Distinguished Professor, the Richard and Loan Hill Professor of Engineering, and the Director of the Dynamic Simulation Laboratory.
He has supervised the work of 46 Ph.D. students at the University of Illinois Chicago where he joined the department of mechanical engineering faculty in 1983 after receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Shabana is the author of six books and more than 220 refereed journal publications.
He inspires to develop the state of the art software technology for virtual prototyping through his research in the area of large scale computations as applied to dynamic systems.
SAE Fellow is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering, scientific and leadership accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicle technologies. The program, established in 1975, recognizes an average of 20 recipients worldwide for this honor each year.
