SAE International, eHigherEducation, Alcoa Partner for Online Courses
WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 12, 2005 - The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International), in partnership with Alcoa and eHigherEducation (EHE), delivers 23 self-paced online courses focusing on quality principles and tools. The courses are designed for all levels of quality professionals and managers whose roles include quality supervision.
"We are quite pleased to be able to offer this new array of e-Learning courses in the quality arena, as quality continues to be a critical issue in the automotive, commercial vehicle and aerospace industries," said Kevin Perry, Managing Director of Professional Development at SAE International. "Also, the online format provides convenient and flexible learning from two highly credible providers, Alcoa and eHigherEducation."
This quality institute was initially developed for Alcoa, a leading manufacturer of aluminum products, in partnership with EHE. After realizing the potential value of the courses to the broader quality community-at-large, EHE and Alcoa decided to make these courses available to a wider audience.
"At Alcoa, our work around quality falls under the larger framework of what we call the Alcoa Business System (ABS), which is our principal operating platform for process stability, improved productivity, and ultimately, the means by which we systematically work to achieve organic growth," said Lloyd Barker, Director for Corporate Quality at Alcoa. "The Alcoa Quality Institute is a training resource for professional skill development in the area of process management in support of ABS. We are excited to make this resource available to others who are focused on improving their own, or their employees', skills and knowledge in quality tools and principles. And, we hope that other companies can benefit from this training through our partnership with SAE International and eHigherEducation."
This institute, now known as the SAE/Alcoa Quality Institute, offers online courses, including assessments and advanced application exercises. The courses include:
- Basic Statistical Methods
- Concepts of Control Charts
- Data Collection, Design of Experiments
- Failure Mode
- Effects Analysis
- Internal Auditing
- ISO 9001:2000
- Measurement Systems Analysis
- Process Capability Analysis
- Regression Analysis
"E-Learning is a cost effective and time efficient way to train employees across multiple geographic locations and time zones," notes Dr. Ed Goldberg, President of EHE. "The anytime/anywhere accessibility of e-Learning makes this training format a logical choice for companies and individuals interested in improving skill sets and knowledge. We are very excited about making these courses available to a broader audience."
