Second SAE Commercial Vehicle Congress Receives High Ratings

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 30, 2005 - Nearly 95 percent of the exhibitors polled indicated that the second annual SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition was important to the future of their business needs.

When asked how they would rate their overall experience at the show, nearly 90 percent replied that they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied.” Contributing to the high percentage rate is the fact that more than 400 attendees at the congress were from OEMs.

“We’re very pleased with the feedback from our attendees of the Commercial Vehicle Congress,” said Herb Kaufman, director, Commercial Vehicle Business, SAE International. “We believe that, in just its second year, this event has found its niche within the commercial vehicle industry as an important forum to share technical information and discuss significant topics.”

The event, held outside Chicago, showcased panel discussions that included top executives in the commercial vehicle industry, hundreds of technical sessions and papers, and an exhibit of leading-edge technology. Peter Karlsten, president and CEO, Volvo Trucks North American, Inc., served as chair for the event. “By all accounts, this was a successful event,” said Karlsten. “The quality of the presentations and exhibits was exceptional.”

Some highlights of the show included a global CEO panel comprising Charles Heine, president, Technology Development and Diversified Products, Dana Corp.; Jorma Halonen, executive vice president, AB Volvo, and deputy CEO of Volvo Group AB Volvo; Hakan Samuelsson, chairman of the executive board, MAN Aktiengesellschaft; and Daniel Ustian, chairman, president and CEO, Navistar International Corporation who discussed the role of engineering in the success of their corporations. Dean Kamen, president, DEKA Research and Development Corporation gave a keynote address, and Bill Graves, president and CEO of ATA and former governor of Kansas, was the featured banquet speaker.

Planning is underway for the 2006 SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition, which will be held Oct. 31 – Nov. 2 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (Chicago), Ill.
