Link, Grimm Receive SAE/AISI Sydney H. Melbourne Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Automotive Sheet Steel

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 2, 2005 -

 

Todd Link and Jeff Grimm, engineers at the United States Steel Corporation in Monroeville, Pa., have been selected to receive the 2005 SAE International/American Iron and Steel Institute Sydney H. Melbourne Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Automotive Sheet Steel.  The award will be presented during the SAE World Congress inDetroit, Mich., April 3-6, 2006.

 

The award, established in 1997, recognizes authors who effectively demonstrate ways to further the use of sheet steel in automotive applications. It honors the accomplishments of the late Sydney H. Melbourne of Dofasco, Inc. and encourages others to strive for the level of excellence he attained within his organization, the steel industry and the automotive marketplace.

 

This year’s award-winning paper is titled, “Axial Crash Testing of Advanced High Strength Steel Tubes” (SAE Paper No. 2005-01-0836).

 

Todd LinkLink, an engineer with the United States Steel Corporation since 1998, focuses on automotive product applications.  He received the Sydney H. Melbourne Award in 2002 and the AISI medal in 2004 for his papers on fatigue performance, crash behavior and formability of advanced high strength steels.  Link holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Pennsylvania State University.

 

Jeff GrimmGrimm, a senior technician with the United States Steel Corporation since 2002, focuses on product technology in sheet products, static testing, dynamic testing and fracture mechanics.  He previously worked at Ecodyne Systems.  Grimm holds two associate degrees in metrology and electrical engineering technology from Butler County Community College.
