Three Expert Panels Announced for SAE International ADAS to Automated Driving Symposium

WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 12, 2017 - SAE International announces three expert panels to be hosted at the ADAS to Automated Driving Symposium which will be held in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 10-12, 2017. The ADAS to Automated Driving Symposium provides attendees with an understanding on the current state of the advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) and automated driving industry.

SAE International is excited to present a series of expert panels which will close out each day of the symposium by highlighting some of the industry’s most pressing topics with input from leaders in each field. Day 1 will feature a panel on Silicon and Sensors as Building Blocks. The expert panel will look at the incredible advancement in the development of advanced silicon and sensors over the past few years which has pushed the industry to the brink of automated driving. This panel will look at the current state of the industry and give us a hint at what the future holds. Panelists will include representatives from GEOdigital, Argus, OSRAM, and dSPACE with Oliver Spiess from ZF-TRW moderating the discussion.

The Day 2 panel will address Processing and Perception as Building Intelligence. The panel will evaluate the need for ADAS and automated system to develop more human qualities to interact in a human world. Automated systems will need to understand when the rules apply and develop the same perceptive qualities of humans to be accepted on our highways. The session will be moderated by Bill Stewart from Infineon and will include input from panelists representing Battelle, Nvidia, GM, and Columbus Smart City.

The final expert panel on Day 3 will cover Testing and Validation as Building Trust. Panelists will discuss ideas for how best to test systems when there are so many situations not within the “rules-base” designed – pedestrians jaywalking, kids chasing a ball, random acts of coincidence. The panel will also evaluate how to achieve a minimum subset of situation-based testing that will provide assurance the systems are safe. Panelists will include experts from dSPACE, Ford, NHTSA, GM, and SAE International with Mike Carpenter of GM set to moderate.

The Symposium’s extensive technical program provides engineers, systems developers, and management with the current OEM direction and safety technologies to reduce vehicle fatalities along with regulatory expectations and potential legal ramifications of moving from driver controlled vehicles to Advanced Driver Safety Systems to fully autonomous vehicles. The Symposium also features tabletop exhibits from the industry‘s leading companies. The tabletop exhibits showcase the latest products and innovations in the ever-evolving fields of active safety, ADAS and automated driving.
