Design the Car, Build the Car, Race the Car: 2006 SAE Mini Baja East

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 12, 2006 - Build an off-road Baja car from scratch; design it so it can go through water, mud and up steep hills; and do it with a snowthrower engine and within a budget.

That's the challenge facing the nearly 70 collegiate engineering teams from across the United States and Canada that will compete in the 2006 SAE Mini Baja East set for Auburn University, April 12-15.

This unique SAE engineering competitions provides real-world, hands-on learning for students. Competitors design and build an off-road vehicle that can survive the punishment of rough terrain. All vehicles are powered by a 10-horsepower Intek Model 20 engine donated by Briggs & Stratton Corporation.

Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for the project -- as well as manage educational priorities.

In 1976, the first Mini Baja event was held at the University of South Carolina and Fort Jackson. In just two years, SAE divided the Mini Baja competition into three regional events: East, Midwest and West.  Ecole De Technologie Superieure is the defending SAE Mini Baja East champion.
