SAE International, CATARC Cooperate to Serve Chinese Automotive Industry

WARRENDALE, Pa., April 17, 2006 - SAE International and China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) have agreed to work together to improve automotive-engineering expertise in China and to serve as a resource for companies located in that Asian nation.

During a signing ceremony held at the recently concluded SAE 2006 World Congress, CATARC Vice President Zhang Jianwei noted that the agreement will benefit both organizations, as well as the Chinese automotive industry. CATARC is China’s standards-setting organization and functions as a link between government and industry, Zhang explained.

The agreement ensures that in China “a wealth of activities will occur in the areas of individual and organizational learning, standards development and application and specialized programs based on industry need,” Greg Henderson, 2006 SAE President, said.

In addition, cooperation between the two entities has been strengthened by:

  • SAE’s establishment of its new Shanghai office at the CATARC Shanghai Automotive Research Center.
  • Completion of a series of SAE seminars for both technical and quality process training at CATARC’s Beijing location.

Top representatives of both SAE International and CATARC are scheduled to meet again in China next month.
