American Society of Body Engineers Becomes Affiliate of SAE Institute

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 2, 2006 - Plans to integrate the American Society of Body Engineers into the SAE Institute, an affiliate of SAE International, are now underway and will be complete by Jan. 1, 2007.

ASBE, which promotes the latest technical developments in the field of automotive body engineering is an all-volunteer, Michigan-based non-profit organization with more than 300 members. The SAE Institute operates as a trade association serving the automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicle sectors by focusing on industry issues and corporate customers.

ASBE members will be eligible for SAE International membership benefits.

The affiliation of ASBE with the SAE Institute “is really the next step in a long-term relationship between the two organizations,” Herb Kaufman, Managing Director of the SAE Institute, explained. “We’ve cooperated on many meetings and have worked in tandem on projects for a number of years.”

Kaufman notes that organizations like ASBE benefit from the association with the SAE Institute by using its processes, procedures, infrastructure and legal framework. On the other hand, the formalized relationship with ASBE expands SAE International’s reach into the body-engineering area as well as provides an additional link to students in Southeast Michigan via an ASBE high-school initiative.

ASBE joins other industry programs under the SAE Institute umbrella including The Americas Sector of the International Aerospace Quality Group, the Off-Highway Standards Consortium, the Off-Road Vehicle Identification Number System and the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association.
