SAE International Book on U.S. Auto History Named Best of the Year

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 11, 2006 - The SAE International publication "Pioneers, Engineers, and Scoundrels" by Beverly Rae Kimes has earned the Nicholas-Joseph Cugnot Award for best book of the year. The award is presented by the Society of Automotive Historians (SAH).

This marks the third award received by the book since it was published for SAE International's 100th anniversary in 2005.

"Pioneers, Engineers, and Scoundrels" is a portrait of the American automobile industry's early years, focusing on individuals who dreamed, schemed, innovated, succeeded and failed in their quests for fame, fortune, glory and knowledge.

The award was presented Oct. 6, during the SAH annual banquet in Hershey, Pa. It recognizes the best book published the previous year.

In addition, SAE International was honored by the SAH with the James J. Bradley Distinguished Service Award for its efforts in preserving motor vehicle resource materials.
