Cummins Director Receives SAE Outstanding Young Engineer Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 15, 2006 - Jennifer RumseyJennifer Rumsey, director of off-highway advanced engineering at Cummins, has been selected to receive SAE International's AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award.   She was presented the award at the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress & Exhibition in Chicago, Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

This award recognizes an outstanding young engineer in the off-highway or power plant industry.  The recipient must demonstrate innovation, teamwork, integrity, community involvement, and leadership in SAE International activities.

At Cummins, Rumsey leads programs that develop technologies to meet the "Tier 4" future off-highway emissions standards for diesel engines.  Before she was named to her current position, she was an engineer and technical advisor in the areas of controls and exhaust aftertreatment technology development. Prior to Cummins, she worked at Nuvera Fuel Cells in Cambridge, Mass.

Rumsey recently completed a Six Sigma project that earned the Cummins Chairman's Award. She also received a National Science Foundation fellowship to pursue her master's degree and was recognized by Purdue University as an outstanding senior in mechanical engineering.  She is a member of SAE International and the Society of Women Engineers.

Rumsey holds a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
