Wedeven Receives SAE Arch T. Colwell Cooperative Engineering Medal

WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 30, 2006 - Dr. Lavern D. Wedeven Dr. Lavern D. Wedeven, President of Wedeven Associates, Inc., has been selected to receive SAE International’s Arch T. Colwell Cooperative Engineering Medal.  He will be presented the award at the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 16-19. 

This award, established in 1976, recognizes outstanding contributions to the technical committees under the SAE Technical Standards Board.  These contributions can include developing standards, specifications, technical reports, and data through cooperative research.  The medal was named in honor of Arch T. Colwell, 1941 SAE President.

Wedeven conducts research and testing in lubrication, wear and friction for the aerospace industry.  As President of Wedeven Associates, Inc., Wedeven and his company develop new test machines and methods to increase the performance and safety of aeropropulsion systems.  Previously, he worked at the  NASA  Glenn  Research  Center  in Cleveland and NASA Headquarters in  Washington, D.C.  Before starting his own company, he worked for SKF Bearing Company.

Wedeven holds three patents and is the author of more than 50 technical papers and several book chapters.  He was recognized by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) with the Walter D. Hodson Award and Captain Alfred E. Hunt Award for best papers. 

Wedeven is a Fellow of STLE and a member of SAE International and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  He holds a bachelor’s in science from  Calvin  College  and a master’s in mechanical engineering from the  University  of  Michigan.  He earned his doctorate from  Imperial  College  in London.  He resides in  Newtown Square, Pa.
