Benczkowski Receives SAE Thomas H. Speller Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 4, 2006 - Ken BenczkowskiKen Benczkowski, vice president and chief operating officer of Broetje Automation-USA, Inc., is the 2006 recipient of SAE International's Thomas H. Speller Award. He was presented the award during the SAE Aerospace Manufacturing and Automated Fastening Conference in Toulouse, France, Sept. 11-14.

This award, established in 1983, recognizes the achievements of Thomas H. Speller who contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the area of automated fastening machines and their applications.

In his leadership role at Broetje Automation-USA, Benczkowski works closely with airframe manufacturers toward fully integrated and efficient factory automation. Benczkowski has been associated with aerospace automated fastening for more than 26 years, beginning his career with GEMCOR, where he served for almost 21 years, holding various positions in spare parts and service management, application engineering, project management, sales, and operations.  He later accepted a position as an aerospace sales manager for PAR Systems.  To this day, some of Benczkowski's innovations in automatic fastening remain industry standards.

Benczkowski holds several patents in the field of automated fastening, including one for a flexible fixture for wing fastening, one for a unique fastening system configuration for automated assembly of fuselage barrel sections, and one for a reconfigurable tool for detail component trimming. He has authored and presented three technical documents for SAE and serves as Equipment Group Chairman within the AAFC Technical Sub-Committee.

Benczkowski is an SAE member and holds bachelor's degrees in business and manufacturing from the State University of New York at Buffalo.>
