South Redford Teacher Receives SAE Award for Teaching Excellence

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 5, 2006 - Cristi JacksonCristi Jackson of the South Redford School District has been selected to receive SAE International’s Lloyd Reuss Award for Teaching Excellence. 

The award, established in 1998, recognizes an elementary school teacher who has made creative and exemplary use of SAE International’s A World In Motion (AWIM) Challenge 1 program to further develop students' understanding and experience in math and science.  The award honors the work and dedication of Lloyd Reuss, former President of General Motors Corporation, who is a staunch supporter of the AWIM program.

Jackson teaches second grade at Fisher Elementary in the South Redford School District of Michigan.  She taught the AWIM program in the fourth grade there for five years.  Prior to joining South Redford, she worked for the Cherry Creek School District in Aurora, Col. 

She has received numerous teaching awards in 2006, including the Baldrige Award, Best Buy Teach Award, South Redford Foundation of Educational Excellence Award, and EDS Education Technology Award.  She was also nominated for 2006 Michigan Teacher of the Year.

Jackson holds a bachelor's in psychology, with an emphasis in elementary education, from the University of Northern Colorado.  She is earning her master’s in teacher development and educational studies from Oakland University in December.
