SAE International Promotes Safety in the Workplace

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 12, 2006 - You can't spell "safety" without S-A-E, and SAE International is working to ensure the safest possible workplaces at its world headquarters located in Warrendale and its Automotive Headquarters located in Troy, Mich.

As part of this initiative, SAE International sought the help of its staff to create a mascot for use in future safety campaigns.  Employees' children were encouraged to participate in the program.

The staff voted on the winning mascot, "Sally the Safety Bus," by Corinne Muha, age 10, of Robinson Township, Pa. The bright yellow school bus will be used as a visual reminder to signal general safety issues in the workplace, such as electrical hazards, trip hazards, and ice and snow warnings.

"At SAE International, we are committed to safety.  The standards we develop promote safety in the automotive, aerospace and commercial vehicle industries," Herb Kaufman, Commercial Vehicle Business Director and Chief Technical Officer for SAE International, said.  "We feel it is important that our workplace reflects that commitment.   Having a mascot will help raise the level of safety awareness within our staff, and with our customers and suppliers."

SAE International receives workplace safety certification through the Bureau of PENNSAFE, a program offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
