Gehner Receives SAE/InterRegs Standards and Regulations Award for Young Engineers

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 12, 2006 - Gerrick Gehner Gerrick Gehner of Caterpillar, Inc., has been selected to receive the SAE/ InterRegs Standards and Regulations Award for Young Engineers. The award will be presented at the Government/Industry meeting inWashington, D.C., May 2007.

This award, established in 2001 by InterRegs, Ltd. and the SAE Foundation, recognizes a practicing engineer under the age of 40 who is involved in standards, regulations or conformity assessment systems that improve safety or reduce emissions in a mobility product. The intent of the award is to encourage young engineers to participate in the standards and regulations development process early in their technical careers.

Gehner started with Caterpillar in 1994 and is currently managing its Asia International Standards and Regulations Team out of Beijing.  His team’s responsibilities include the identification, communication, and support of standards and regulations development for Caterpillar products throughout Asia. Gehner has been actively involved in construction machine and diesel engine standards and regulations development, including mandatory conformity assessment processes.

Before assuming his current position, Gehner designed in-house diesel engine test equipment at Caterpillar, resulting in the award of four patents related to emissions test equipment and processes. Gehner began work in the standards and regulations field in 2001 by identifying and monitoring diesel engine emission regulations and standards on a global scale.

A member of SAE International, Gehner is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois. He holds a bachelor’s degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Western Illinois University. Gehner also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
