Ganesan Receives SAE Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Dec. 15, 2006 - Dr. V. GanesanDr. V. Ganesan has been selected to receive SAE International's Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award. He will be presented the award at the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 16-19.


The award, established in 1984, recognizes an authority in turbomachinery engineering for on-highway, off-highway, spacecraft or aircraft vehicle use.  SAE International administers this annual lecture to honor Cliff Garrett and the inspiration he provided to engineers by his example, support, encouragement, and many contributions as an aerospace pioneer.  The award is made possible by a contribution from the Garrett Corporation, which is now a division of Honeywell, and the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.

Ganesan has been working in the field of internal combustion engines and gas turbines for 40 years. He is currently a professor of mechanical engineering in the Internal Combustion Engines Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has held many administrative positions with the institute, including head of the mechanical engineering department and dean of academic research. His main research interests are in the areas of fluid flow, heat transfer and combustion applied to automotive engines and gas turbine combustion systems.

Ganesan has published more than 300 papers in national and international conferences and journals and has authored four books related to mobility engineering. He has received more than 25 national and international awards, and was recognized by SAE International as a Fellow in 2006. He is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering in India and a life member of the Combustion Institute.

Ganesan received his bachelor's in engineering from the University of Madras. He received his master's in technology and his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He resides in Chennai, India.
