Ganesan to Receive SAE Excellence in Engineering Education Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., March 9, 2007 - Dr. V. GanesanDr. V. Ganesan of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has been selected to receive SAE International's Excellence in Engineering Education Award.  He will be presented the award during the SAE 2007 World Congress in Detroit, April 16-19.

This award, established in 1995, recognizes outstanding contributions made by an individual toward activities related to the SAE Engineering Education Board.  The SAE Foundation funds this award.  In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.

Ganesan, a mechanical engineering professor, has been working in the field of internal combustion engines and gas turbines for 40 years.  While at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Ganesan has held many administrative positions, including head of the mechanical engineering department and dean of academic research. 

Ganesan has published more than 300 papers in national and international conferences and journals and has authored four books related to mobility engineering.  He has received more than 33 national and international awards, and was recognized by SAE International as a Fellow in 2006.  He is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering in India, Fellow of National Environmental Science Academy in India, and a life member of the Combustion Institute.

Ganesan received his bachelor's in engineering from the University of Madras in 1967.  He received his master's in technology in 1970 and his doctorate in 1975 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.  He resides in Chennai, India.
