Gordon Allen to Receive SAE Thomas H. Speller Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 17, 2007 - Gordon Allen

Gordon Allen of The Boeing Company is the recipient of SAE International's Thomas H. Speller Award. Allen will be presented the award during the SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition in Los Angeles, Sept. 17-20.

This award, established in 1983, recognizes the achievements of Thomas H. Speller, who contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the area of automated fastening machines and their applications.

Allen is manager of the Composite Research & Development Laboratory in the Material and Process Technology Organization at Boeing. During his 40-year career at Boeing, which he began as a mechanic and riveter on the shop floor, Allen was an automatic fastening specialist for 30 years.

An active member of SAE International, Allen participates on the Aerospace Automated Fastening Committee, which he chaired for six years. He is the 2007 Chair of the Aerofast Conference, a position he also held in 1992 and 1997. He is a 2000 recipient of the SAE Forest R. McFarland Award and a 2002 recipient of the SAE Aerospace Chair Award.

Allen studied applied science in civil engineering at Green River College in Auburn, Wash. He resides in Renton, Wash.
