Boeing Vice President to be Recognized with SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 7, 2008 - John J. Tracy, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations & Technology for The Boeing Co. , is the recipient of SAE International's Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award. He will be presented the award during the SAE AeroTech Congress & Exhibition in Seattle , November 2009.

John J. Tracy This award, established in 1992, honors an individual at the corporate official level for outstanding leadership contributions to the field of aerospace engineering.

This award is funded through the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.

As Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations & Technology at Boeing, Tracy is responsible for defining and implementing corporate strategies for attaining and maintaining technical and functional excellence and enhancing the yield of technology investments across the enterprise. He also provides strategic direction to several functions and organizations, including Engineering, Operations, Supplier Management and Quality Assurance functions, along with the Information Technology, Phantom Works, Intellectual Property Management, and Environment, Health and Safety organizations.

Prior to this position, Tracy was Vice President of Engineering and Mission Assurance for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems; Vice President of Structural Technologies, Prototyping, and Quality for Boeing Phantom Works; and General Manager of Engineering for Boeing Military Aircraft and Missiles.

Tracy has served on the editorial board for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Journal, the Journal of Thin-Walled Structures, and the Journal of Computer Modeling and Simulation in Engineering. He also has authored 34 publications. His awards include being named 2007 Engineering Alumnus of the Year at the University of California-Irvine, 2006 Hispanic Engineer of the Year by the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corp, and 2005 Manager of the Year by the Boeing Aerospace Leadership Chapter.

In addition to his membership with SAE International and its G-5 committee, Tracy is a Fellow member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Royal Aeronautical Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Tracy holds a doctorate in engineering from the University of California-Irvine and master's and bachelor's degrees in physics from California State University - Los Angeles and California State University-Dominguez Hills, respectively. He resides in Chicago .
