SAE International Recognizes List, Pischinger with International Leadership Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 22, 2008 - Helmut List, Chairman and CEO, AVL, and Franz Pischinger, Chairman of the Board, FEV Motorentechnik, are being recognized for their long-standing involvement with SAE International activities as recipients of the SAE International Leadership Citation. The awards were presented during the SAE 2008 World Congress in Detroit .

The International Leadership Citation, established in 1988, recognizes individuals who are well-known internationally for their professional involvement and participation in SAE's meetings, conferences, congresses, and for their unique assistance and support in helping SAE achieve its goals and objectives.

This award is funded through the SAE Foundation. In addition to supporting the awards, recognition and scholarship programs of SAE International, the SAE Foundation develops and funds programs and incentives that foster student interest in engineering, scientific and technical education.

About the recipients 

 

Helmut List
This marks the second time that List has won the SAE International Leadership Citation, becoming the first two-time winner of the award. List has served as Chairman and CEO of AVL since 1979. Upon joining AVL in 1966, List spearheaded the creation of the medical instruments and instrumentation and test systems business units. He has authored more than 25 publications and has received numerous awards. List also serves as Vice Chairman of the Road Transport Research Advisory Council, and Chairman of the University Board at Graz University of Technology.

Franz Pischinger
Pischinger founded the powertrain engineering company FEV Motorentechnik in 1978 and now serves as Chairman of the Board. Previously, he was head of research and development at Klockner Humblodt Deutz, professor and Director of the Institute of Applied Thermodynamics at the Aachen University of Technology, and President and CEO of FEV Motorentechnik. In these roles, he has directed the design and development of passenger car and light-duty truck engines, as well as medium-duty diesel engines. Pischinger is an SAE Fellow, an associate member of the National Academy of Engineering and Technology, and a member of the German Academy of Engineering and Technology. He is a past recipient of the Soichiro Honda Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Decoration of Honor from VDI.
