Description
This award is the highest recognition that the SAE Foundation Board of Trustees bestows upon an individual who has exhibited exemplary leadership that benefited SAE, the SAE Foundation, and/or the SAE Foundation Canada.

• The recipient will have been responsible for one or more major initiatives which have resulted in notable and/or highly innovative achievements or expansions of the Foundation Mission.

  SAE Foundation Mission Statement: "TO DEVELOP AND FUND PROGRAMS AND INCENTIVES THAT FOSTER STUDENT ENTRY INTO AND COMPLETION OF ENGINEERING, SCIENTIFIC, AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION"

• The recipient will have served in one or more responsible positions within SAE and/or its Foundations.

• Because this award has a special emphasis on visionary achievement, any specific requirements for SAE membership or involvement may be ignored by the Award Committee.

The award honors Donald W. Ableson, 1999 SAE President, who played a key role in establishing and building the SAE Foundation and the SAE Foundation Canada. He has made notable contributions to the advancement of the automotive industry and has given selflessly of his time and energy to SAE, the SAE Foundation, and the SAE Foundation Canada.

The Award
Established in 2003, this award is administered by the Ableson Award Board comprised of at least three Foundation Trustees, and consists of a crystal memento presented at a major SAE meeting or SAE Foundation event.
